Who we are?

The organisation was formed in March 1999 and has achieved a reputation for producing new and challenging works. Balagan works with children aged between 9 and 18, recruited mainly from schools in the London Borough of Lambeth.

About us

Balagan Theatre Company is a company limited by guarantee (No. 3729079) and a registered charity (No. 1077098). The organisation was formed in March 1999 and has achieved a reputation for producing new and challenging works.

The objects for which the charity was established are to:

(a) encourage, promote, maintain, improve and advance education and participation in music and drama for children and young people;

(b) develop and disseminate new musical repertoire for schools.

We are managed by a Board of Trustees who are working in the arts, including dance and choreography, comic art, composition, public sculpture, design, contemporary music, video making and publishing. Board members include Rolf Gehlhaar (Chair), Tobias Tak (Treasurer), Marcela Livingston, Stuart Monro, Brigid Scott Baker and John Walsh.

Balagan's Patron is the actor David Suchet.

Balagan's funders to date have included: BBC Children in Need, Bridge House Trust, Awards for All, Arts for Everyone, Lambeth Endowed Charities, Youth Music Foundation, Lambeth Education Action Zone, Lambeth Arts, LVAC, Garfield Weston Foundation, Lloyds TSB Foundation, Royal Victoria Hall Foundation, Musicians' Union, Music Sound Foundation and Help a London Child.


Latest Releases

Orpheus Orpheus

Orpheus (by Marc Forde), was the first musical produced by the company, and is based on the Greek myth. It was originally performed at St James Church in Piccadilly with a cast of about 100 children from 3 different schools.
